====== Region ======

**What it is:** A geographic area where AWS runs data centers (for example: ap-southeast-1, ap-northeast-1).

**What it’s for:**
  * Choose the closest place to your users to reduce *latency* /ˈleɪtənsi/ (độ trễ).
  * Meet data residency / compliance needs.
  * Control cost and service availability (some services/features differ by Region).

**Key ideas:**
  * A Region contains multiple [[aws:global:availability-zone|Availability Zones (AZs)]].
  * Most AWS services are **regional** (resources live inside one Region).
  * Pick a Region early; moving later can be expensive.

**Common exam cues:**
  * “lowest latency for users in Japan” → choose a Region near Japan.
  * “data must stay in EU” → choose an EU Region.
  * “service not available in this Region” → you may need another Region.
