**What it is:** Block storage volumes attached to EC2 instances (like virtual disks).

**What it’s for:**
  * Persistent storage for EC2 (OS disk, data disk).
  * Databases hosted on EC2.
  * High IOPS workloads depending on volume type.

**Key ideas:**
  * EBS volumes are tied to one AZ (you can snapshot and restore elsewhere).
  * Backups are done with [[aws:storage:ebs:snapshot|Snapshots]].
