Scheduled Scaling (Auto Scaling)
What it is: An Auto Scaling feature that changes desired capacity based on a schedule (date/time).
What it’s for:
- Handle predictable traffic spikes (end-of-month payroll, daily batch windows).
- Ensure instances are ready before load starts.
Key ideas:
- Use a scheduled action to set desired capacity at a specific time.
- Keep min/max as normal guardrails; don’t lock them to peak values unless you truly want fixed capacity.
Exam cue:
- “spike at a known time (every month/day)” → Scheduled scaling.
Hard words (English + IPA + Vietnamese meaning):
- *scheduled* /ˈskedʒuːld/: theo lịch
- *desired capacity* /dɪˈzaɪərd kəˈpæsəti/: số lượng mong muốn
- *guardrail* /ˈɡɑːrdeɪl/: rào chắn giới hạn (min/max)
- *predictable* /prɪˈdɪktəbl/: dự đoán được
