aws:global:region

Region

What it is: A geographic area where AWS runs data centers (for example: ap-southeast-1, ap-northeast-1).

What it’s for:

  • Choose the closest place to your users to reduce *latency* /ˈleɪtənsi/ (độ trễ).
  • Meet data residency / compliance needs.
  • Control cost and service availability (some services/features differ by Region).

Key ideas:

  • A Region contains multiple Availability Zones (AZs).
  • Most AWS services are regional (resources live inside one Region).
  • Pick a Region early; moving later can be expensive.

Common exam cues:

  • “lowest latency for users in Japan” → choose a Region near Japan.
  • “data must stay in EU” → choose an EU Region.
  • “service not available in this Region” → you may need another Region.

Hard words (English + IPA + Vietnamese meaning):

  • *latency* /ˈleɪtənsi/: độ trễ
  • *residency* /ˈrɛzɪdənsi/: cư trú (dữ liệu “ở” đâu)
  • *compliance* /kəmˈplaɪəns/: tuân thủ (quy định)
  • *feature* /ˈfiːtʃər/: tính năng
