Region
What it is: A geographic area where AWS runs data centers (for example: ap-southeast-1, ap-northeast-1).
What it’s for:
- Choose the closest place to your users to reduce *latency* /ˈleɪtənsi/ (độ trễ).
- Meet data residency / compliance needs.
- Control cost and service availability (some services/features differ by Region).
Key ideas:
- A Region contains multiple Availability Zones (AZs).
- Most AWS services are regional (resources live inside one Region).
- Pick a Region early; moving later can be expensive.
Common exam cues:
- “lowest latency for users in Japan” → choose a Region near Japan.
- “data must stay in EU” → choose an EU Region.
- “service not available in this Region” → you may need another Region.
Hard words (English + IPA + Vietnamese meaning):
- *latency* /ˈleɪtənsi/: độ trễ
- *residency* /ˈrɛzɪdənsi/: cư trú (dữ liệu “ở” đâu)
- *compliance* /kəmˈplaɪəns/: tuân thủ (quy định)
- *feature* /ˈfiːtʃər/: tính năng
