Present Continuous

What it is: A tense for actions happening now or around now. What it’s for: Describe temporary actions and current trends. Example: “I’m studying English right now.”

Form

  • Affirmative: S + am/is/are + V-ing
    1. I am working. / She is working. / They are working.
  • Negative: S + am/is/are not + V-ing
    1. She isn’t working today.
  • Question: Am/Is/Are + S + V-ing?
    1. Are you working now?

When to use

  • Now: “He is talking on the phone.”
  • Temporary: “I’m living in Ho Chi Minh City these days.”
  • Trends: “More people are learning online.”

Common mistakes

  • “I am study” ❌ → “I am studying” ✅
  • “He is go” ❌ → “He is going” ✅
