Present Simple

What it is: A tense for habits, routines, facts, and general truths. What it’s for: Talk about repeated actions and permanent situations. Example: “I usually drink coffee in the morning.”

Form

  • Affirmative: S + V1(s/es)
    1. I/You/We/They work
    2. He/She/It works
  • Negative: S + do/does not + V1
    1. I don’t work on Sunday.
    2. She doesn’t work on Sunday.
  • Question: Do/Does + S + V1?
    1. Do you work here?
    2. Does he work here?

When to use

  • Habits/Routines: “She goes to school every day.”
  • Facts/Truths: “Water boils at 100°C.”
  • Schedules: “The train leaves at 8.”

Common mistakes

  • “He go” ❌ → “He goes” ✅
  • “Does she goes?” ❌ → “Does she go?” ✅
