Present Simple
What it is: A tense for habits, routines, facts, and general truths. What it’s for: Talk about repeated actions and permanent situations. Example: “I usually drink coffee in the morning.”
Form
- Affirmative: S + V1(s/es)
- I/You/We/They work
- He/She/It works
- Negative: S + do/does not + V1
- I don’t work on Sunday.
- She doesn’t work on Sunday.
- Question: Do/Does + S + V1?
- Do you work here?
- Does he work here?
When to use
- Habits/Routines: “She goes to school every day.”
- Facts/Truths: “Water boils at 100°C.”
- Schedules: “The train leaves at 8.”
Common mistakes
- “He go” ❌ → “He goes” ✅
- “Does she goes?” ❌ → “Does she go?” ✅
