Word Stress
What it is: The “stronger” syllable in a word. What it’s for: Sound natural and be understood. Wrong stress can confuse listeners. Example: PREsent (noun) vs preSENT (verb)
Quick rules (useful)
- Many 2-syllable nouns/adjectives: stress first: TAble, HAPpy
- Many 2-syllable verbs: stress second: reLAX, deCIDE
- Words ending in -tion/-sion: stress the syllable before: eduCAtion

- Clap on the stressed syllable.
